Not everyone can afford a private dentist, and this group lists the alternatives: federally qualified community health centers and county health departments that charge on a sliding scale and take Medicaid and CHIP, dental schools where supervised students treat patients at a fraction of private fees, free clinics run by charities and dental societies, mobile and in-home dentists who serve nursing homes and rural areas, and the insurance agencies and discount plans that pay for care. State and local dental associations run referral lines, Give Kids A Smile days and Mission of Mercy weekends where volunteers treat hundreds of patients for free.

San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Francisco is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

My experience with UCSF Dental Center has been disappointing overall. The appointment scheduling process is very slow, and it can take a long time to move from one stage of treatment to the next. The care process often feels fragmented, with treatment divided into many separate steps, which makes the overall timeline much longer than expected. Because UCSF is a teaching institution, many of the providers are dental students. I understand that students need clinical training, but from a patientβs perspective, the experience can feel inconsistent. The quality of care and communication varies, and it is often difficult to get timely responses when trying to contact the students involved in the treatment. Another issue is continuity of care. During treatment, students may change, and responsibility can feel spread out among different people. As a result, it is not always clear who is consistently following up on the patientβs case or who is ultimately responsible for the treatment plan. This can make patients feel that their care is not being closely managed from beginning to end. The pricing also does not feel especially transparent. UCSF Dental Center is not necessarily the cheape

Compared with UCSF School of Dentistry, UC Davis pre-dental preparation feels much weaker and far less convincing. UCSF represents real professional seriousness: strong clinical training, respected faculty, major health-system connections, research strength, and a reputation that carries weight in dentistry and healthcare. It feels like an institution built around actual competence, patient care, and professional standards. UC Davis, by contrast, can feel inflated by the UC name while not proving enough in the areas that matter most: outcomes, mentorship quality, clinical readiness, maturity, and return on investment. In my opinion, the pre-dental culture there can appear too focused on rΓ©sumΓ© polishing, recommendation chasing, GPA management, and looking competitive on paper rather than building real depth, judgment, and patient-centered professionalism. Dental school should not reward image over substance. Strong applications, polished essays, and good letters do not automatically prove someone is ready for the demands of healthcare. UCSF should be careful not to overvalue UC Davis branding alone. Any UC Davis pre-dental applicant should have to prove real ability, ethics, comm

I had a very complex root canal treatment with Dr. Keyvan NikGhalb, and I am truly grateful for his expertise and care. Before seeing Dr. Nik Ghalb, I consulted with several dentists and specialists. Some of them told me that my case was very challenging and that there was a risk the post inside the root canal could break during treatment. Naturally, this made me very concerned. Dr. Nik Ghalb took the time to thoroughly explain my condition, answered all of my questions, and performed the treatment with exceptional skill, confidence, and professionalism. He successfully handled a case that many others considered extremely difficult. I am not only very satisfied with the quality of the treatment, but also impressed by his professionalism, patience, attention to detail, and genuine care for his patients. The entire process went smoothly, and I felt comfortable and well cared for every step of the way. I highly recommend Dr. Keyvan Nik Ghalb to anyone looking for an experienced and highly skilled endodontist. If you have a complicated case or are nervous about root canal treatment, he is someone you can absolutely trust.

Its a great recource for low cost gooe dental work. Not always great, but, all steps of the process are supervised by experienced instructors. And this process makes your appointment last much, much longer than a regular practice. I found some instructors to "thick", set in their ways, the gasslighting biased kind that tell you its all in your head. A problem that seems to be more present in dentistry then medicine. But if your poor, and in SF that is an easy thing to be, this is not a bad place.
